Kogi Works Commissioner Salami Ozigi Deedat explains why he believes residents will support Tinubu in 2027, citing projects and federal policies
Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat, has said residents of the state are likely to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing federal projects, infrastructure development and increased financial resources available to the state.

Deedat made the remarks during an inspection tour of federal and state government projects in Kogi State by members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the Presidential Communications Team and more than 40 senior journalists.
The tour included a visit to the Kogi State-owned Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, in Okehi Local Government Area, where the commissioner highlighted the impact of government investments in the state.
According to Deedat, the administration of Governor Usman Ododo has been able to pursue major infrastructure projects partly because of increased funds accruing to the state following economic reforms introduced by President Tinubu’s government.
He said the governor had openly acknowledged the role of federal support in enabling development projects across Kogi.
“The Governor would not have been able to do all these without the resources that are made available by Mr President,” Deedat said.
He added that policies such as the removal of fuel subsidy had increased resources available to governments, allowing states to invest more in critical sectors.
Deedat pointed to projects including the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Benin road and developments around Ajaokuta as examples of federal interventions that he believes would influence public opinion ahead of the 2027 election.
“As a Kogite, you have no reason not to allow the President to continue doing what he is doing in Kogi State University, not to allow him to continue doing what he is doing in Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Benin road and particularly, what he is doing in Ajaokuta,” he said.
The commissioner also argued that public discussions on social media do not always reflect the views of residents on the ground, claiming that many Kogi people appreciate the ongoing projects linked to federal support.
“What you are seeing on social media is not in tandem with what is happening in Kogi because we know what he is doing on our highways, we know what he is doing in Ajaokuta,” Deedat said.
He added that the All Progressives Congress had consistently received strong electoral backing in the state and expressed confidence that the trend would continue.
During the inspection tour, officials also highlighted developments at CUSTECH, where the university’s Director of Administration, Mohammed Ahmed, said federal investments through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund had contributed significantly to the institution’s growth.
Ahmed listed completed projects including the Faculty of Science Complex, Faculty of Environmental Sciences Complex, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences Complex and Faculty of Anatomy, with a combined value of more than N2.3bn.
The delegation also inspected the Barefoot Renewable Energy College and the Green Hydrogen Research and Demonstration Pilot Plant established through the Energy Commission of Nigeria.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Engagement, Strategy and New Media, Otega Ogara, said the facilities were designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills in renewable energy technology.
“The College is the second globally, after the one in India. The Hydrogen Plant is the second in Africa,” Ogara said.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the projects reflected the impact of policy reforms and investment in education and science-based development.
The team also visited sections of the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, including the Kabba Junction area, where Deedat said the project had been divided into five sections to accelerate completion.
He described the highway as a long-neglected route that had suffered from previous abandonment but was now receiving attention under the current administration.
The inspection further covered state projects, including the GYB Model Science Secondary School in Nagazi, Kogi State University Kabba, healthcare facilities and road projects across parts of the state.

While Deedat’s comments reflect the position of the state government and ruling party supporters, political analysts note that voter decisions ahead of the 2027 election will also be shaped by wider issues including economic conditions, public services and individual experiences across communities.
