Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Ameh said the country’s elections have no technical issues.
He reacted to the signing of the Electoral Amendment Act 2026 into law, describing claims of electoral system deficiencies as false.
Ameh stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is fully capable of conducting elections, noting that the commission has successfully transmitted results in past elections, including in Anambra State.
He explained that INEC is independent under Sections 133 and 151 of the Constitution and has the necessary resources to manage elections.
He added that the President’s claims were an attempt to justify the act, suggesting that the real concern is political unpopularity rather than system inadequacy.
According to Ameh, the APC government fears an election that genuinely reflects the will of the people.

He concluded, saying the Electoral Act reforms were driven by INEC and critical stakeholders, and that there is nothing technically wrong with Nigeria’s electoral process.
