APC chieftain Farouk Aliyu says President Tinubu does not need to resign, insisting Nigerians will decide his fate in the 2027 elections

Aliyu made the remark during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, where he addressed recent demands by opposition figures asking the president to step down.
He said it was normal in a democratic system for opposition parties to call for resignation, adding that such actions are part of political engagement.
“The President does not have to resign. Nigerians should decide at the polls,” Aliyu said.
He noted that opposition parties are expected to challenge the government, recalling that similar calls were made in the past when APC was in opposition.
According to him, the final decision on leadership rests with the electorate, not political pressure or public calls for resignation.
Aliyu acknowledged that Nigeria is facing economic and security challenges but insisted that the administration is making efforts to address them.
“Agreed, there are economic, security, and other challenges, but we are doing our best to ensure these things don’t continue,” he added.

The comments come amid renewed political debate over governance and accountability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
