Shettima Says Tinubu’s Second Term Will Benefit North

Shettima says Tinubu’s second term will benefit northern Nigeria, citing agricultural funding, development projects and government programmes

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged Northern Nigeria’s political leaders and residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the region stands to benefit more if the administration secures a second term.

Shettima made the appeal on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Abuja while receiving a delegation from Arewa for Tinubu (A4A), a northern-based think tank mobilising support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

The Vice-President said the region had no reason to fear Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the administration had prioritised its development through government appointments, agricultural financing and major infrastructure projects.

“The North has no reason to be scared of the re-election of President Tinubu,” Shettima said.

He called on northern leaders and citizens to unite in support of the administration, linking its continuation to the region’s development and the well-being of its people.

“We are benefiting, and we stand to benefit more from this government in many ways,” he added.

To support his argument, Shettima cited the Bank of Agriculture’s reported disbursement of N450bn to 700,000 smallholder farmers across Nigeria.

According to the Vice-President, approximately 70 per cent of the beneficiaries were from Northern Nigeria.

He also pointed to major development projects being undertaken by the administration, assuring the delegation that Tinubu remained committed to the region.

“I can assure you that the President loves the North and will work for the region,” Shettima said.

The Vice-President thanked A4A for its continued support and urged members to intensify their mobilisation efforts across wards, communities and local government areas ahead of the 2027 general election.

Earlier, A4A Director-General and former Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru said the organisation would continue working to secure support for Tinubu’s re-election across Northern Nigeria.

Badaru disclosed that the group planned to engage religious leaders, including Muslim and Christian clerics, as well as other prominent Nigerians, to explain why they believed voters should support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027.

He said the organisation had already held several meetings with influential individuals and that its Board of Trustees was continuing the engagements.

Badaru also said A4A was supporting the Presidential Campaign Council through grassroots mobilisation activities designed to complement the council’s broader campaign efforts.

According to him, the group would focus on activities at the ward and local government levels.

The organisation’s Board of Trustees Chairman and former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau said A4A had supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and intended to repeat its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 poll.

Shekarau said the group had been engaging northern governors and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration.

He also announced that the organisation had concluded plans to establish a permanent secretariat to coordinate its operations.

The proposed facility will accommodate directors and state coordinators, enabling the organisation to review reports, assess activities and issue instructions to members across the country.

Shekarau formally invited Shettima to commission the A4A office complex on October 17, 2026.

The meeting highlights ongoing efforts by political support groups to mobilise voters ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

While Shettima and the A4A leadership have emphasised agricultural funding, government programmes and development projects as reasons for supporting Tinubu’s re-election, the administration’s performance and its impact on different regions are likely to remain important subjects of public debate.
