The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the clarification while addressing criticism surrounding the timing of the visit, which coincided with renewed security concerns in parts of the country.

President Tinubu recently embarked on a two-day state visit to the UK, where he was received by King Charles III in what officials described as a strengthening of diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.

The trip attracted criticism from opposition figures, who questioned the appropriateness of foreign engagements amid domestic security challenges.

Responding, Bwala argued that national progress cannot be achieved through isolation, stressing that Nigeria must actively engage the global community to attract investment and create opportunities.

“Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ You don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting,” he said.

He added that the President’s visit was aimed at expanding partnerships in areas of mutual interest, particularly economic development, job creation, and international cooperation.

The Tinubu UK trip Presidency defence policy communication further emphasised that diplomatic visibility is crucial for strengthening Nigeria’s global standing and attracting long-term benefits for citizens.

Bwala maintained that the administration remains committed to ensuring Nigeria is “seen, heard, and respected” on the world stage, describing the UK engagement as part of broader efforts to reposition the country internationally.

According to him, constructive foreign relations are a strategic necessity rather than a distraction from domestic governance.
