Umahi: God Will Keep Tinubu in Power Till 2031

Minister Dave Umahi has declared that God will keep President Bola Tinubu in power until 2031. The bold prediction came during an inspection of bridge projects in Lagos on 19 June 2026

Minister of Works Dave Umahi declared that God would sustain President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office until 2031, enabling him to complete Nigeria’s development agenda and overcome current national challenges.

The former Ebonyi State governor made the remarks while inspecting ongoing bridge reconstruction projects, including the historic Carter Bridge, which is set for full rehabilitation starting next week.

“The same God that brought him is going to be there to solve all the problems,” Umahi said, adding that divine favour would equip the president with the wisdom and strength needed to tackle insecurity and other pressing issues.

He appealed to Nigerians to support and cooperate with the Tinubu administration, stressing that no leader desires instability but that responsible leadership demands confronting crises head-on. “There is no leader who will not want his reign to be peaceful, but when crises come, the leader must confront them. That is exactly what we are doing,” he stated.

Umahi expressed confidence that the current government would finish all projects it had initiated.

“Your hands that have started this will complete it,” he told workers and onlookers, reinforcing his belief in continued divine backing for the administration.

The minister also disclosed that the Carter Bridge reconstruction would be completed within three years as part of a broader five-year infrastructure plan.

The statement has stirred immediate reactions across the political landscape. While some supporters view it as a rallying call for continuity and stability, others have raised constitutional concerns.

Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution limits presidents to two four-year terms, meaning President Tinubu’s current mandate, which began in May 2023, is scheduled to end in 2031 at the latest.

This is not the first time a senior government official has invoked divine will in support of the president.

Such remarks often reflect the strong religious sentiments that shape public discourse in Nigeria, though critics argue they should not overshadow constitutional limits and democratic principles.

President Tinubu’s administration continues to face significant challenges, particularly on insecurity and economic hardship, even as major infrastructure projects advance across the country.

Umahi’s comments come as the government pushes ahead with ambitious road, bridge and rail developments aimed at improving connectivity and economic growth.
