Governor Umar Namadi finds several senior officials absent during a surprise visit to the Jigawa State Secretariat as he pushes for greater accountability
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, on Monday carried out a surprise inspection of the State Secretariat in Dutse, where he found several offices belonging to senior government officials locked and many civil servants absent from duty during working hours.

The unannounced visit, conducted at about 11 a.m., formed part of the governor’s statewide oversight tour aimed at strengthening accountability, improving workplace discipline and enhancing public service delivery across the state.
A video of the inspection, which has since circulated widely on social media, showed Namadi moving through different ministries, opening office doors and finding numerous workspaces deserted, with only a few messengers and security personnel present.
Confirming the visit in a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s Special Assistant, Garba Muhammad, said the inspection focused on evaluating staff attendance, punctuality and productivity.
“The day’s activities commenced with an unannounced visit to the Jigawa State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, where the Governor monitored staff attendance, punctuality, and workplace productivity,” Muhammad said.
He added that the exercise underscored the administration’s commitment to improving standards within the state civil service.
“The exercise reflects his administration’s continued drive to promote discipline, accountability, and an efficient public service,” he stated.
After inspecting the secretariat, Namadi travelled to Ringim Local Government Area, where he visited families affected by the recent boat accident in Malamawar ‘Yan Dutse community.
The governor joined residents for funeral prayers for victims whose bodies had been recovered, while search operations continued for those still missing.
He also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Ringim, offering prayers for the deceased and their families.
The governor later inspected ongoing township road projects in Sankara and the Kanya Babba road before proceeding to Kazaure to assess the progress of major public infrastructure projects, including hospitals, the Jigawa State Research Institute and the Jigawa State Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology.
According to Muhammad, the tour reflects the governor’s hands-on approach to governance and his determination to ensure government projects are completed on schedule.

“The tour demonstrated Governor Namadi’s commitment to maintaining close supervision of government programmes, improving public service delivery, and accelerating the implementation of developmental projects that advance the vision of a Greater Jigawa,” the statement added.
