The Presidency on July 17, 2026, praised Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for what it described as landmark infrastructure projects transforming the state, following an inspection tour by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour in Imo State.

The delegation, comprising members of the Presidential Communications Team and more than 40 senior journalists, visited completed and ongoing projects across the state, including developments in healthcare, technology, education, hospitality and transportation.

The Presidency said the projects reflected purposeful leadership and effective cooperation between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government, while commending Uzodimma’s administration for driving what it described as an infrastructure revolution.

Uzodimma’s landmark Imo infrastructure projects were highlighted during the tour, with officials pointing to initiatives designed to support economic growth, improve public services and position the state as a centre for innovation and development.

One of the major projects inspected was the Imo Digital City, where smartphones and laptops are being assembled to create employment opportunities for young people and strengthen the state’s digital technology sector.

The team also inspected the ongoing construction of a 2,000-bed ultra-modern infectious disease centre in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. The facility is expected to improve Nigeria’s preparedness and response capacity during future public health emergencies.

Speaking during the inspection, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said the projects aligned with the objectives of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“When you talk about the micro of the Renewed Hope Agenda, such features are like this infrastructure and the human capital development we just saw in Orlu Local Government now a 2,000-bed infectious disease centre at almost 85 per cent completion,” Dare said.

He added that the team had also observed the oxygen plant and the revitalisation of healthcare facilities that had remained inactive for several years, describing the developments as projects with direct impact on citizens.

The delegation further inspected the 19-kilometre Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Border Road, which links Imo and Anambra states.

The strategic road project is expected to improve transportation, support commercial activities and address challenges caused by gully erosion in the area.

Dare also commended the Imo State Government for resolving accreditation and certification challenges affecting medical graduates in the state, describing the development as a significant step towards improving healthcare education and specialist training.

The ongoing Heart Transplant Centre at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu, was also praised for its potential to expand access to specialised cardiovascular treatment and reduce the need for Nigerians to travel abroad for advanced medical care.

The delegation acknowledged other projects, including the Imo State University of Innovation, Science and Technology in Imuma and the expansion of the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre in Owerri into a modern facility with more than 2,000 seats.

Sunday Dare said the progress recorded in Imo demonstrated the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities in delivering people-focused development.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the increased FAAC allocation that comes monthly from the Federal Government to the state government providing extra fund for development projects,” Dare said.
