Wike says Fubara corrected mistakes by returning to his political family, describing the Rivers governor’s reconciliation as the right decision
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has corrected his political mistakes by reconciling with the camp that backed his emergence as governor, insisting there was nothing wrong with the move.

Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory, Wike dismissed suggestions that Fubara’s return to his political fold amounted to seeking forgiveness after months of political conflict.
The former Rivers State governor said politics was about recognising errors and making the right decisions rather than assigning blame.
“He has no option but to return to the political family that made him. I don’t know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that,” Wike said.
The minister added that political disagreements should not be viewed as permanent divisions, arguing that reconciliation remains part of the democratic process.
“Politics is not a sin. What matters is recognising that you were on the wrong path and making the right decision,” he added.
The latest remarks come weeks after signs of renewed ties between Wike and Fubara, whose relationship deteriorated shortly after the governor assumed office in 2023, triggering a prolonged political crisis in Rivers State.
The dispute split the state’s political structure, affected the Rivers State House of Assembly and prompted repeated interventions by political leaders and the Presidency aimed at restoring stability.
Wike also recalled that he had predicted the reconciliation before Fubara publicly confirmed it, expressing confidence that the renewed alliance would strengthen efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

The reconciliation marks a significant shift in Rivers politics after nearly two years of tensions between the governor and his predecessor, with both camps now signalling a willingness to work together.
