Zamfara Voter Register Rises 16% Ahead of 2027 Polls

Zamfara voter register rises by 16.04% to 2.26 million as INEC urges eligible voters to collect their PVCs ahead of the 2027 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported a 16.04 per cent increase in Zamfara State’s registered voters, with the figure reaching 2,265,175 as of August 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Zamfara Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mahmuda Isah, disclosed the figures in Gusau during a stakeholders’ meeting on preparations for the 2027 elections and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to Isah, the state had 1,952,060 registered voters during the 2023 general elections. The latest figure represents an increase of 313,115 registrations.

He said the growth underscored the need for effective voter mobilisation and sustained public enlightenment to encourage participation in the electoral process.

Isah also explained that the voter register would undergo verification and validation in line with electoral laws and approved procedures to ensure its accuracy and credibility.

The REC said PVC collection would continue at INEC offices across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas following the conclusion of collection exercises at ward level.

He urged registered voters who had yet to collect their cards to visit the INEC office in their respective local government areas and collect them personally.

The commission’s appeal comes as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections, with voter registration figures and PVC collection remaining important aspects of electoral readiness.
