ADC warning Tinubu one party state as party leaders accuse the government of undermining democracy during OccupyINEC protest in Abuja

Chieftains of the African Democratic Congress on Wednesday issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cautioning against what they described as attempts to steer Nigeria towards a one-party system during a protest held in Abuja.

ADC warning Tinubu one party state came to the fore during the OccupyINEC demonstration, where key political figures gathered to express concerns over the direction of democratic governance in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the party, former presidential candidate Peter Obi said the current administration was undermining democratic principles.

He stressed that Nigeria must preserve a multi-party system that allows citizens the freedom to choose their leaders through credible processes.

Peter Obi emphasised that the protest was peaceful and aimed at safeguarding democracy for future generations.

He warned that weakening democratic institutions could have long-term consequences for national stability and citizen participation.

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi also addressed the gathering, accusing the administration of failing to address economic hardship.

He argued that rising living costs and perceived policy shortcomings were negatively impacting Nigerians across various sectors.

Rotimi Amaechi further predicted that the ruling government would face electoral defeat in the 2027 presidential election, citing public dissatisfaction as a key factor that could influence voter sentiment.

The remarks from both political figures reflect growing opposition concerns over governance, economic conditions and the state of democratic practice in Nigeria.
