Aisha Yesufu Questions NDC Primary Process

Aisha Yesufu NDC primary controversy deepens as activist questions fairness of the selection process for FCT senatorial candidate

Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has raised concerns over the process that produced the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory Senatorial District, alleging that she was denied a fair opportunity to contest.

Yesufu made the remarks during an interaction with party officials, where she expressed frustration over the circumstances surrounding the selection process and the reasons given for her inability to secure the ticket.

She said she was informed that her late entry into the party may have worked against her aspiration, a claim she described as disappointing given her involvement in the political space.

“I was told recently that I came in late to this party. Who does that? I have endured a lot in the last few days. My name has been dragged all over,” she said.

The Aisha Yesufu NDC primary controversy has since drawn attention within political circles, with renewed scrutiny on internal party processes and candidate selection procedures.

She stressed that she was not seeking preferential treatment but insisted that all aspirants deserved a fair and transparent process.

“I am not even asking for a level playing ground, I am asking for a ground,” she stated.

Yesufu added that she would have accepted the outcome if she was convinced the process was conducted fairly and transparently.

“I am ready to accept that I lost. If I lost fairly, I am ready to accept that I lost,” she said.

She also referenced alleged assurances from party leaders regarding consultations and stakeholder engagement, arguing that such commitments should have been honoured.

Although she did not confirm whether she would challenge the outcome, Yesufu said she had refrained from responding publicly in recent days to maintain focus on broader objectives.
