APC Chieftain Onuigbo praises Tinubu’s reforms, saying fuel subsidy removal and FX changes are boosting revenue and investor confidence
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Sam Onuigbo, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Abuja, praised the economic direction of Bola Tinubu, stating that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering measurable progress that could position the party strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Onuigbo, a former member of the House of Representatives, said ongoing reforms in the economy and public policy are laying the foundation for long term growth.
He described the administration’s policy direction as courageous, particularly in areas that have historically been politically sensitive.
He pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy as a major turning point, arguing that it has increased revenue inflows to state governments and enabled them to undertake more developmental projects.
According to him, governors now have greater financial capacity to meet obligations and deliver infrastructure without relying heavily on federal bailouts.
Onuigbo contrasted the current fiscal environment with previous periods, noting that state governments previously depended on federal assistance to meet basic responsibilities such as salary payments.
He suggested that the improved liquidity at subnational levels reflects the impact of the subsidy reform.
He also highlighted the unification of the foreign exchange rate as another significant reform, describing it as a step that has improved transparency and provided a more predictable environment for investors.
He said this shift has reduced the uncertainty associated with fluctuating exchange rates and created a clearer framework for economic planning.
Beyond macroeconomic policy, Onuigbo referenced the student loan scheme as an example of social intervention aimed at expanding access to education.
He also noted improvements in administrative processes, including more efficient passport issuance through the Ministry of Interior, as part of broader governance reforms.
According to him, these developments collectively demonstrate progress across multiple sectors, reinforcing the administration’s reform agenda.
He argued that such outcomes could strengthen the APC’s political standing by the time voters head to the polls in 2027.
Onuigbo maintained that the combination of economic restructuring, institutional improvements and infrastructure development reflects a deliberate effort to reposition the country.
