Atiku’s Aide Calls on Tinubu to Resign, citing insecurity, rising deaths and concerns over the government’s handling of security challenges
Paul Ibe, media adviser and spokesperson to African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, arguing that the Federal Government has failed to adequately address the country’s worsening security challenges.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, Ibe said the administration’s handling of insecurity had fallen short of public expectations and questioned whether Nigerians were safer today than they were three years ago.
According to Ibe, the government’s foremost responsibility is to protect lives and ensure the welfare of citizens.
He maintained that the current security situation suggests significant gaps remain in achieving those objectives.
“Let me tell you why President Tinubu needs to resign. The primary responsibility of government is security and welfare. Are we more secure now than we were in 2023? The answer is no,” Ibe said.
The opposition spokesperson cited figures he claimed showed that 879 people had been killed while nearly 300 others remained in captivity, describing the statistics as evidence of the scale of insecurity affecting various parts of the country.
“According to statistics, 879 people have been killed, and nearly 300 are in captivity. Those statistics are very frightening. That’s a snapshot of the pervasive insecurity that we have,” he added.
Ibe argued that despite ongoing security operations, the government’s efforts had not produced sufficient results to reassure citizens.
He warned against what he described as a “trial and error” approach to governance, insisting that stronger and more effective measures were required.
“The government’s efforts are not good enough. We can’t continue on this journey of trial and error,” he said.
The remarks add to growing political debate over security and governance ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the administration’s performance on key national issues.
Security remains one of the most significant challenges facing Nigeria, with incidents of kidnapping, banditry, communal violence and insurgency continuing to affect several regions.
The Tinubu administration has repeatedly stated that it is committed to strengthening security architecture through enhanced military operations, intelligence gathering and collaboration among security agencies.
In recent months, the Federal Government has announced a series of initiatives aimed at combating violent crime, including the deployment of additional personnel and specialised resources to areas facing heightened security threats.
However, critics argue that more decisive action is needed to deliver lasting improvements and restore public confidence.
Ibe’s comments reflect the position of a leading opposition voice and are likely to intensify political discussions about security, governance and accountability as parties begin positioning themselves for future electoral contests.
