Benue Labour Party defections APC ADC as ward chairman and APC members dump parties, strengthening LP ahead of 2027 political race
The Labour Party (LP) on Sunday, 23 March 2026, recorded a significant political boost in Benue State as a ward chairman, alongside members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the party in a growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, intensifying Benue Labour Party defections APC ADC dynamics across the state.

The development follows the defection of the lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, who reportedly left the APC for the Labour Party amid internal party tensions in the state.
Party sources indicated that Agbese’s move was accompanied by a large number of supporters drawn from the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the ADC across his constituency and neighbouring areas, signalling a broader political shift in the region.
Among the latest entrants into the Labour Party is Comrade Tony Christopher Ochube, popularly known as Comrade 1010, who formally announced his defection in a letter dated 22 March 2026 addressed to the Labour Party ward leadership in Ichama Ward II, Okpokwu Local Government Area.
In his statement, Ochube said his decision followed consultations with supporters and political associates, adding that his resignation from the ADC was driven by the need for a more effective platform for grassroots engagement and governance.
He described the Labour Party as aligned with his values of good governance, youth empowerment, and transparent leadership, stating that his political move was guided by a desire to better serve his constituency.
The Benue Labour Party defections APC ADC wave has further heightened political activity in the state, as parties intensify efforts to consolidate influence ahead of the next general elections.
Analysts say the growing number of defections reflects internal instability within major political blocs and underscores the increasing competitiveness of opposition politics in the region.
