Ifemeludike, who also serves as the AAC Deputy National Chairperson (South-East), announced her withdrawal in a letter addressed to the party’s Acting National Chairperson and released to journalists on Friday.
Chioma Ifemeludike decision comes barely a month after she emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate through a consensus arrangement during the AAC primary election.
In the letter, she formally requested that her name be removed from all records, processes and considerations relating to the Anambra Central Senatorial District candidature.
“I hereby formally notify the National Working Committee and the leadership of the African Action Congress of my decision to withdraw my interest and aspiration to contest for the office of Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District under the platform of our great party in the 2027 General Elections,” she stated.
Explaining her decision, Ifemeludike said she reached the conclusion after careful reflection and in line with her commitment to justice, accountability and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
She also cited recent developments surrounding the case involving Baby Testimony and the child’s physically challenged mother, alleging that the circumstances had strengthened her resolve to step away from the race.
“In my view, the role played by Doris Ogala Umezurike in matters relating to the case of Baby Testimony and his physically challenged mother has been deeply concerning,” she wrote.
She added that the events surrounding the matter had contributed to prolonged distress and public embarrassment for the child’s mother while raising serious concerns about the pursuit of justice.
The former candidate said her immediate priority would be to focus on advocating for accountability and protecting vulnerable members of society rather than pursuing elective office.
Despite her withdrawal, Ifemeludike reaffirmed her commitment to the African Action Congress, stressing that she remains loyal to the party and its ideals.
“I remain a loyal member of the African Action Congress and will continue to work tirelessly for the success of the party and the advancement of its ideals,” she said.
