Ayo Fayose predicts President Bola Tinubu will defeat Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in 2027, even if they run together
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose predicted that President Bola Tinubu would defeat Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.

Ayo Fayose spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He described Atiku Abubakar as the African Democratic Congress candidate and Peter Obi as the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate, and said both men would lose to President Bola Tinubu.
He used former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s failed third-term bid as a comparison.
“When Obasanjo wanted to do his third term he failed, anybody can deny but I don’t want to join issues with Obasanjo, I’m just giving this as an example,” Ayo Fayose said.
“When he wanted to do a third term it didn’t work because there are unwritten constitution that is within the norms of our politics.”
Ayo Fayose said President Bola Tinubu would still win if Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi joined forces. “Today when you go by the book, in what way will Obi and Atiku, even if they come together, this man, President Tinubu, will still defeat them. But let us say that they didn’t come together, too bad for them.”

He argued that the South-West would deliver a wide margin. “Southwest will come up with not less than five or six million difference, who will vote for Obi and Atiku in Ekiti? Who will vote for them in Osun? Who will vote for them in Ondo? What is their structure?”
