Amadi Blasts Fraudulent Party Primaries in Nigerian Politics 2027

Sam Amadi says fraudulent party primaries in Nigeria are weakening parties and deepening political conflicts ahead of the 2027 elections

Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has criticised recent party activities across Nigeria, alleging that widespread fraudulent party primaries are undermining internal democracy and intensifying political instability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amadi made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television, where he stated that outcomes of several recently concluded primaries across political parties were not credible and had worsened internal disputes among party members.

He argued that the alleged irregularities in fraudulent party primaries Nigeria have weakened party structures, reduced accountability and created growing mistrust among aspirants and party leadership.

According to him, many parties lack the internal discipline required to manage political competition effectively.

“Most party primaries were fraudulent,” Amadi said. He added that even candidates favoured by zoning arrangements were sometimes excluded due to what he described as the influence of powerful political figures, particularly governors.

Amadi further noted that the internal organisation of political parties had become increasingly chaotic, with new entrants allegedly displacing long-standing members, a trend he said was destabilising party cohesion nationwide.

He referenced political developments in Delta State, suggesting that shifts in party alignment and influence had significantly altered the balance of political power within the state.

The analyst also expressed concern that weak internal democracy within parties could escalate tensions as the 2027 elections approach, warning that unresolved grievances from primaries may resurface during the general polls.

The comments add to ongoing debates about transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly within party structures where allegations of imposition and manipulation frequently emerge.

As preparations intensify toward 2027, Amadi’s remarks are expected to fuel further discussions on reforming internal party democracy and strengthening electoral integrity within Nigeria’s political system.
