The party disclosed this in Abuja on Monday while releasing its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 primary elections.
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Ken Asogwa, the decision was taken by the National Working Committee in recognition of Alex Otti as the only sitting governor elected on the party’s platform.
Ken Asogwa stated that the party resolved to issue the expression of interest and nomination forms to the governor free of charge.
He explained that the timetable was released in line with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s revised election guidelines.
The Labour Party also announced structured fees for other political offices, ranging from state assembly to presidential aspirants.
House of Assembly aspirants will pay ₦1 million for expression of interest and ₦2 million for nomination, while House of Representatives aspirants are required to pay ₦5 million in total.
Senatorial aspirants will pay ₦10 million altogether, while governorship aspirants are expected to pay ₦25 million in total for both forms.
For the presidential ticket, the party fixed ₦50 million as the total cost of forms.
However, Ken Asogwa noted that female aspirants, youths aged 25 to 30, and persons living with disabilities will only pay for expression of interest forms across all positions, in line with the party’s principles of inclusion.
The party also outlined its primary election schedule, with the sale of forms beginning on May 6 and ending on May 16, while submission of completed forms runs from May 17 to May 18.
Screening for House of Assembly and governorship aspirants will hold on May 20, while national assembly and presidential screening is scheduled for May 22.
Appeals and petitions will follow shortly after, with final lists of cleared aspirants expected on May 26.
The Labour Party primaries are scheduled for May 27 for House of Assembly and governorship candidates, and May 29 for national assembly and presidential aspirants.
