Adebayo Claims Massive Surge After Obi Joins NDC

NDC membership surge claim emerges as Dr Adefolaseye Adebayo says 10 million Nigerians registered after Peter Obi joined the party

South West Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, Adefolaseye Adebayo, has claimed that the Nigerian Democratic Congress witnessed a sharp rise in membership following the defection of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to the party.

Adefolaseye Adebayo said the NDC membership surge claim reflects growing national support for Peter Obi, insisting that the politician’s influence cuts across all six geopolitical zones of the country.

The claim comes just days after Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso reportedly left the African Democratic Congress for the Nigerian Democratic Congress ahead of the next general elections, a move that has already stirred intense political debate.

Adefolaseye Adebayo stated that about 10 million Nigerians allegedly registered with the NDC within 24 hours of Peter Obi’s entry into the party, describing the figure as evidence of strong grassroots enthusiasm.

“Mr Peter Obi has a lot of followership across Nigeria. You cannot say his chances or the chances of the South East have reduced drastically,” she said, stressing that political appeal should be measured by personality and capability rather than party structure alone.

The remarks come amid mixed reactions over the recent political realignments, with critics questioning the sustainability of such rapid membership growth figures, while supporters argue it reflects a shifting political mood ahead of the next general election.
