PDP insists no faction exists after INEC rejected the Turaki-led leadership, citing pending court judgments in ongoing party litigation
The Peoples Democratic Party has insisted that there is no faction within the party, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee.

INEC said in a letter dated 22 December 2025, signed by its Secretary Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, that it could not upload the list of elected party officers from the national convention held on 15 and 16 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State, due to existing court judgments.
The commission explained that its decision was guided by subsisting court rulings and pending litigation concerning leadership disputes within the opposition party, adding that recognising any factional officers while matters remain before the courts would be improper.
Reacting, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said the party had appealed the judgments on which INEC based its decision and had filed applications for a stay of execution.
He stated that the Court of Appeal would soon hear and deliver judgment on the matters.
In a statement, Ememobong said the PDP “reiterates that in law and fact, there is no faction in the Peoples Democratic Party. The legitimate organs and administrative structure of the party remain under the control of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.”
The party described INEC’s action as a technical compliance with court orders, affirming that it would continue to operate under its elected leadership while awaiting judicial determination.
