Turaki made the call in a statement on Thursday to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 15 to honour the sacrifices of fallen and serving military personnel.
The PDP chairman stressed that adequate support and funding for security agencies are essential for sustaining morale, enhancing operational effectiveness, and ensuring national stability.
“As our country marks the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, we convey our deepest condolences to the families of members of the Armed Forces who died in active service while executing their mandate of protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country,” Turaki said.
He added, “We use this opportunity to demand improved welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces and all members of the security and intelligence community, to help them better discharge their assigned roles. We also urge the Federal Government to adequately fund the security agencies to effectively neutralise agents of insecurity and restore peace and security to our country.”
Turaki further appealed to all actors, state and non-state alike, to avoid actions capable of destabilising the nation.
