Umeh Dismisses Jonathan 2027 Rumours, Backs Obi

Senator Victor Umeh says rumours of Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 return will not weaken Peter Obi’s support base or chances in the next election

Anambra Central Senator Victor Umeh has dismissed concerns that speculation around former President Goodluck Jonathan’s possible return to the 2027 presidential race could weaken support for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Speaking during a live interview on Trust TV on Thursday, the lawmaker said supporters of Peter Obi are not threatened by the rumours and remain confident in the strength of his political movement ahead of the next general election.

The Peter Obi 2027 Presidency Rumours have continued to generate political discussion, with various camps assessing how potential high-profile entrants could reshape the electoral landscape.

Umeh argued that every major political figure has an established support base and insisted that Obi’s following has continued to grow since the 2023 election.

He maintained that the emergence of any additional candidate would not automatically diminish Obi’s political influence or electoral prospects.

According to him, Obi has built a strong movement capable of making a significant impact in 2027 and potentially securing victory if he contests again.

The senator also stated that Obi had previously held consultations with former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding political developments, adding that Jonathan did not indicate any intention to contest the 2027 election during those engagements.

Umeh’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation about possible realignments within Nigeria’s political space ahead of the next presidential cycle.
